As Teofimo Lopez remains in search of the big fights against some of boxing's major names, his obligations as WBO world champion still have to be fulfilled. Mandotory challenger Steve Claggett earned his shot at the title with nine straight wins and was hoping to make it 10 in his first world title shot. The Canadian fought bravely, but it wasn't enough to secure the win in Miami, Florida.
Teofimo Lopez is one of boxing's most polarising figures. The outspoken champion from Brooklyn, New York has already been a part of some great fights in his career. Lopez is a two weight world champion and has notable victories against Vasily Lomachenko and Josh Taylor. Now he's on the hunt for even more big fights, but securing them has not been easy.
Lopez has been interested in fights with Tank Davis, Devin Haney and even Terence Crawford. These fights have failed to materialise over the past year and Lopez had to turn his attentions to the lesser known Steve Claggett. Fans weren't impressed with this fight happening and were hoping to see Teo fight the names previously mentioned. Claggett had no intention on letting this opportunity go to waste however, and was ready for the challenge.

Out of the gates, Claggett applied serious pressure onto Lopez. The champ was backed into the ropes by the educated pressure and decent punch output of the challenger. Lopez countered with some heavy shots and showed good footwork as he navigated his way around the ring. The best action was seen in Round 8, when the champ rocked Claggett with a mean uppercut and followed up with spiteful combinations. It was becoming one-sided.
Lopez continued to dominate the fight into the later rounds made his way to a clear Unanimous Decision win. #AndStill WBO Super Lightweight World Champion. With a record now at 21-1, 13 KOs remains one of best fighters in the division. But now is the time to find out who the best really is. As Lopez contines to call out P4P #1 Terence 'Bud' Crawford, a unification with long time rival Devin Haney awaits. The next move is key for 'Takeover'.
